Description

Position: OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

Department: Student Services

Program: Special Education

Reports to: Program Supervisor

Classification/Range: Licensed, Represented

Schedule: 190 days per year/8 hours per day

Interview Timeline: Interviews offered on a rolling basis; start date flexible but prefer as soon as possible

 

POSITION PURPOSE: 

To assess and identify fine motor and functional skills in students grades K-12. This position identifies educationally-relevant accommodations and adaptations in and out of the classroom. The Occupational Therapist develops and implements instructional and therapeutic interventions as indicated.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assess, evaluate and analyze students’ ability to access the natural or educational environment for learning.
  • Determine level of service based upon current assessment(s).
  • Draft and implement Individual Education Program (IEP) based upon student needs.
  • Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team in planning and implementing student programs.
  • Participate in decisions about the need for occupational therapy services, development of functional, measurable goals and determine which educational or developmental goals occupational therapy will support.
  • Schedule instruction and/or occupational therapy to coordinate with classroom activities and services from other disciplines.
  • Determines the types, frequency and duration of interventions, as well as accommodations and modifications of the environment.
  • Direct intervention with the child present, individually or in groups.
  • Review the intervention plan on an ongoing basis and dependent on the child’s response, modify as needed.
  • Prepare specialized materials and devices.
  • Document student progress and monitor student performance.
  • Delegate and direct the activities or techniques of the Occupational Therapy Assistant.
  • Act as a liaison with related professionals, parents and/or agencies to coordinate student services.
  • Attend required meetings.
  • Maintain records and write reports.
  • Act as a resource person in the area of occupational therapy services.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor, or which are indicated to assure the physical and emotional well-being of students.
  • Adhere to policies of the district and procedures of the department and/or section.

Attendance: Daily and consistent attendance and puncuality are paramount as this provides consistency and alignment with students, peers and programming outcomes. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES: 

  • Daily and consistent attendance and punctuality
  • Emotional and physical stamina to perform duties as required by the designated task except for temporary disability.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle available.
  • Ability to lift students according to acceptable risk factors guidelines (up to 60 pounds maximum without additional support). Exact lifting requirements will vary based upon student weight, tone, and transfer positions/space.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES: 

  • Fluent in reading, writing and speak of non-English language(s)

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate of an accredited college of Occupational Therapy.
  • License to practice Occupational Therapy in the State of Oregon
  • At least two years of experience working as an occupational therapist in a school or clinical setting

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in a school and office setting.

This position is subject to board policies, administrative rules and procedures, department regulations and applicable state and federal statutes.
